5 Simple Changes I’m Making in 2025 to Feel More Productive and Present

The start of a new year always brings a sense of renewal and possibility. In 2025, I’m focusing on small but intentional changes that prioritize my well-being and help me stay more present in my daily life. If you’re looking for ways to be more productive and grounded this year, maybe these tips will inspire you, too!

1. Fueling My Body with Whole Foods (and Cutting Back on Caffeine)

I’ll admit it: caffeine has been my crutch for way too long. A rushed morning often meant grabbing an energy drink and running out the door without giving much thought to what I was putting in my body. By the time the afternoon slump hit, I was reaching for a soda or other caffeine-filled drink to keep me going. Sound familiar?

This year, I’m shifting my focus to whole foods that provide sustainable energy throughout the day. Think colorful salads, hearty proteins, and nutrient-packed snacks like nuts or fruit. Instead of relying on caffeine to wake me up, I’m experimenting with meals that keep my energy stable. Sure, I still enjoy the occasional caffeine drink (because let’s be real), but I’m not turning to it as my only lifeline.

If you’ve been caught in the caffeine cycle like me, this change might feel daunting. Start small: replace one caffeinated beverage a day with herbal tea or water. Your body—and your productivity—will thank you.

2. Drinking More Water

Speaking of beverages, one of my biggest goals this year is to drink at least 100 ounces of water every day. I am currently taking small steps to meet this goal, and to be honest, I haven’t hit it yet. But I have increased my water intake each day (progress over perfection, right)! I’ve come to realize just how much better I feel when I’m hydrated. My skin looks healthier, my energy levels are more consistent, and I’m less likely to mindlessly snack when I’m sipping water throughout the day.

To make this habit stick, I’m getting creative by infusing my water with fruits like lemon, berries, or cucumber—a little flavor makes a big difference.

If drinking more water feels overwhelming, start by tracking your current intake and adding just 4 ounces more each day. Before you know it, I am sure we will be hitting that 100-ounce goal together.

3. Putting My Phone Away During Playtime with Rae

As a mom to a soon-to-be three-year-old, I’ve noticed just how much my phone can distract me from truly being present. Whether it’s scrolling through social media or answering a quick work email, my screen time has a way of creeping into moments that should be dedicated to my daughter, Rae.

This year, I’m making a conscious effort to put my phone away during playtime. When Rae wants to build a block tower or splash around in the pool, she deserves my full attention. Plus, these moments are fleeting, and I don’t want to miss a single one.

If you’re struggling with this too, consider creating phone-free zones or times in your day. For me, the goal isn’t to eliminate my phone entirely but to set boundaries that prioritize what matters most.

4. Moving My Body for 30 Minutes a Day

Exercise has always been something I know I should do, but finding the time and energy has often felt like a chore. This year, I’m reframing movement as a gift to myself rather than another item on my to-do list.

Whether it’s a quick yoga session, a walk around the neighborhood, or a dance party in the living room with Rae, my goal is to move my body for at least 30 minutes every day. Not only does this help my physical health, but it’s also a huge boost for my mental well-being. Those endorphins are no joke!

If you’re looking to add more movement into your life, start with something you genuinely enjoy. The key is consistency over perfection. Some days might be more intense workouts, while others are gentle stretches, and that’s perfectly okay.

5. Journaling Before Bed

One of my biggest struggles has been quieting my mind at night. I often lie in bed replaying conversations or making mental to-do lists for the next day. Enter: journaling.

Each night, I’m setting aside just 10 minutes to jot down my thoughts, reflect on the day, and clear my mind before bed. Sometimes it’s a gratitude list; other times, it’s a brain dump of everything swirling in my head. This simple practice helps me let go of the day and transition into a more restful state.

If you’ve never journaled before, don’t overthink it. Start with prompts like, “What went well today?” or just simply write down what is in your head that is keeping you from going to sleep. Over time, you’ll find your rhythm and style.

The Ripple Effect of Small Changes

What I love most about these changes is how they’re focused on me but have an outward effect. By fueling my body, staying hydrated, being present with Rae, moving daily, and clearing my mind at night, I’m showing up as a better mom, wife, and professional. Productivity isn’t just about getting things done, it’s about doing them with intention and presence.

So here’s to 2025: a year of small, meaningful shifts that lead to big transformations. If you’re making changes this year, I’d love to hear what they are. Let’s cheer each other on and make this the best year yet!
